Base: An emulsion composed of a blend of phospholipids, phytosterols and vegetable-based compounds organised in bilayers, creating a stable lamellar network that mimics the skin’s lamellar lipid structure. Provides immediate and intense moisture, protects the skin by acting as a ‘second skin’, reinforces skin barrier function and helps to soothe and calm irritated and stressed skin.

Provitamin D3: Encapsulated form of provitamin D3 (7-Dehydrocholesterol). Provitamin D3 is converted to vitamin D3 upon exposure to sunlight. Reinforces skin barrier function, increases skin resistance against environmental aggressors and supports the skin’s natural recovery.

Ceramide NS: A main component of the stratum corneum of the epidermis layer of human skin. Helps to repair the skin barrier function, improve skin hydration and reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Leaves skin smooth, supple and moisturised.

Phospholipids: Major building components in the structure of cellular membranes. These natural, skin-identical ingredients demonstrate excellent moisturising, repairing and protective properties.

Glycolipids: Biomimetic lipid molecules with restructuring, repairing and protective properties. Strengthen the barrier function and boost hydro-retaining capacity of the skin.

Prebiotics: A blend of sugar molecules called α-glucooligosaccharides obtained from corn and beetroot, and β-fructooligosaccharides derived from yacon tubers (Polymnia sonchifolia). Prebiotics support the growth of good (beneficial) bacteria on the skin surface to help rebalance healthy skin microflora, demonstrate excellent moisturising properties and promote healthier skin.

Probiotics: A blend of inactivated bacteria from 2 bacterial strains (Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Acidohilus). Probiotics help to maintain, optimise and restore the natural microflora of the skin. Support the skin’s natural immune defences, enhance the recovery of the skin’s barrier function and exhibit a potent soothing effect.

Vitamin F: A complex composed of polyunsaturated essential free fatty acids; linoleic acid and linolenic acid, derived from safflower oil. Restores and reinforces lipid barrier function and prevents transdermal water loss (TEWL).

Ethyl Linoleate: A stable form of linoleic acid. Once applied to the skin, it is converted to linoleic acid and provides all the skin benefits of linoleic acid with improved skin permeability.

Phytosterols: Lipids derived from soybeans (Glycine soja). Structurally similar to skin’s natural lipids, these sterols moisturise skin, reduce water loss, strengthen natural barrier function and soothe the skin.

Plant fatty acids: A mix of 3 fatty acids: palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid derived from almond oil, olive oil, linseed oil and borage oil. These fatty acids deeply nourish the skin and improve skin smoothness and elasticity.

Lecithin: A vegetable-based phosphatidylcholine, a natural part of all cell membranes. Shows emollient, moisturising and smoothing properties.

Cholesterol: A vegetable-derived sterol with nourishing, moisturising and softening properties.

Shiso (Perilla frutescens): Shiso, also known as Japanese mint, is a plant rich in polyphenols (particularly rosmarinic acid) and triterpenoids (particularly ursolic acid). Zelens uses an extract obtained from Shiso leaf which demonstrates excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-allergic properties. Shiso leaf has been used for years in Kampo medicine due to its strong detox properties and ability to prevent skin reactivity and soothe sensitive skin.

Ornithine: An amino-acid encapsulated in ionosomes. By activation or up-regulation of the transcription factor HIF-1 (Hypoxia Inducible Factor), ornithine restores fatty tissue volume and exhibits a lipofilling-like effect.

Yeast: A filtrate of the lysate (the solution consisting of the material released from cell lysis- cellular disruption) obtained by the fermentation of yeast (Saccharomyces). Rich in amino-acids, essential minerals, beta-glucan and vitamins. Possesses anti-inflammatory, revitalising and protective properties. Increases cell respiration and metabolism, stimulates oxygen consumption and enhances skin repair.

Panthenyl Triacetate: A derivative of pantothenic acid, a member of the vitamin B complex. Shows soothing, anti-irritating and wound-healing properties.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol): A naturally derived vitamin with powerful antioxidant and photoprotective properties. Tocopherol is an excellent moisturiser that helps to reduce water loss and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier.

Glycerin: A vegetable-derived molecule naturally present in the skin. Acts an excellent humectant, a substance that attracts moisture from the environment and increases the amount of water in the surface layers of the skin.

Coco-Caprylate/Caprate: Completely natural vegetable-derived esters. Act as a fast-spreading emollient with excellent moisturising, skin-conditioning and refatting properties.

Dimethicone: A synthetic polymer molecule with excellent emollient, conditioning and skin protecting properties. Fill in fine lines and wrinkles and gives skin a plumper look.

Trehalose: A naturally occurring saccharide with moisturising, skin-conditioning and protective properties.

Inulin: A polysaccharide extracted from chicory roots. Supports the skin microbiome. Shows good moisturising and skin-conditioning properties.
